A hydraulic fluid called Skydrol is widely used within the Aviation industry for testing of parts. These parts are tested for long time periods and are usually in unmanned environments. Skydrol is a high cost, hazardous material which is considered to be carcinogenic

The site in question had has several failures in pipe work of a test bench, which had resulted in large clean-up operations.

A Multiplex Monitor and 6 sensors were initially installed to protect the immediate equipment, but more sensors were later added to the pump room and distribution flanges.

Individual shutdown were used to create shutdown zones, so if any sensors in the zone trigger an alarm, only that area is shut down. This ensured that other test benches would continue to operate.
